Supporting your health and wellbeing with reflexology
Pregnancy and postnatal Reflexology
Pregnancy can be wonderful thing and many women adjust perfectly to the hormonal changes that are taking place. However, for others some may find the physical and emotional side effects of these hormonal changes more challenging. Maternity reflexology is a safe and supportive therapy for pregnant women and can be very beneficial and support you during your pregnancy journey and the post-natal period.
During your pregnancy, your body will go through significant changes; these changes will affect the emotional, hormonal and physiological balance of your body. Regular Reflexology treatments may help to alleviate or prevent discomforts that may arise and help to restore your body’s natural balance, and boost your energy levels.
Pregnancy Reflexology
Creates the perfect environment for a balanced mind and body, to support you and your growing baby. Putting your feet up during a maternity reflexology session takes the pressure off your body, helping you to physically relax and de-stress. Reflexology provides you with a great opportunity to have some precious time to yourself, relax and to prepare for your baby’s arrival in a comforting and nurturing environment.
Reflexology also promotes good blood and lymphatic flow so can help with swollen feet, legs and ankles. As you may not want to take medication during your pregnancy, reflexology is a natural therapy which may help to alleviate common pregnancy discomforts such aches and pains, fatigue, and constipation.
Benefits of reflexology during pregnancy
Reflexology may help the following:

- headaches
- fatigue
- induces deep relaxation and aids restful sleep
- stress and anxiety
- heartburn and acid reflux
- digestive problems and constipation
- back and hip pain

- oedema (fluid retention) – swollen or puffy ankles and legs
Postnatal reflexology
It takes a while to recover from pregnancy and labour, physically and emotionally, and the postnatal time is when you might need support. Reflexology can help you rebalance your body and hormones after a period of huge change, and give you some much needed rest. Reflexology is extremely soothing and relaxing and has shown that it can improve the quality of sleep in postnatal women. Regular treatments post-birth can help you keep well, stay positive, and ease some of the very normal anxieties you may be feeling. Home visits can be arranged.
All working in Harmony
Reflexology during pregnancy requires specialist training which I have undertaken with the FHT. Reflexology does not replace any advice provided by your GP or midwife and I would suggest that you check with your midwife, GP or consultant before having reflexology just to ensure that they are happy for you to go ahead with a treatment, as permission from them will be required.
As with all new clients a detailed consultancy will also be required before any treatment plan can begin and these can be adjusted to meet your requirements throughout your journey.
