Reflexology for pain relief

Supporting your health and wellbeing with reflexology

Nerve reflexology works on reflexes for the nervous system on the bones of the feet and is particularly effective in treating conditions that are caused, or influenced by the nervous system. It was developed by the very experienced Belgian physiotherapist Nico Pauly for those patients whose pain symptoms did not respond completely to physiotherapy. It puts together the entire pain picture: peripheral nerves, brain and central nervous system, muscles and ligaments. It is believed to work deep into the nervous system to restore co-ordination within the nervous system for the relief from acute and chronic pain.

The technique applied for nerve reflexology is different to conventional reflexology as pressure from the top of the inside of the therapist’s thumb is applied to the bones of your lower leg (below the knee) and feet. This unique and precise technique influences targeted nerves in your body, which has an effect on organs, glands and other systems, corresponding to the areas of pain and discomfort. Therefore, changes will occur in the peripheral, central and autonomic nervous systems as well as alleviating the stress and anxiety that pain and discomfort can cause.

Reflexology unlocks pain relief by treating nerves in the feet and can support the healing process for a wide range of conditions including:

  • Back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Sports Injuries
  • Persistent post-surgical pain
  • Pain in cancer survivors
  • Chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy
Pain Management with reflexology

I had been suffering from lower back pain for a few months and I read about how reflexology could help. Sceptical at first, I contacted Paul and even after the first treatment I noticed a difference. After further treatments, I felt the pain greatly reduced. As I continue the treatments the pain has decreased tremendously and is more manageable and I feel life has returned back to normal.

What is involved in the treatment?

A full medical history will be requested on your first visit. As this is a treatment specifically for pain, a detailed consultation around your pain and how it is affecting you is required. The more information we have the better we are able to tailor the treatment to your pain conditions. The treatment will take place in a lafuma chair or on a couch. The recipient sits or lies down comfortably with the feet and ankles uncovered. There are over 7000 nerve endings in each foot and by stimulating the reflex points with specific thumb and finger sequences of pressure. This sends a vital force to the corresponding parts of the body that require help.
